Welcome to
Ela Meteora Trikala

The place we are called to promote begins about 30 million years ago with Meteora reminding us of it.

Holy Monastery of Varlaam

The Monastery of Varlaam or the monastery dedicated to All Saints is the second biggest monastery of the rock formation of Meteora. It is located imposingly in the heart of Meteora and is predominantly displayed.

It was inhabited for the first time during the first half of the 14th century, 600 years ago, by an ascetic-eremite Varlaam, who lived at the same time as Saint Athanasios of Meteora.

However, the first founders of the church were the priest-monks Nektarios and Theophanes, who were two rich brothers from a prominent and wealthy Byzantine family named Apsadares from Ioannina. The reference architectures that we see in the Monasteries of Mount Athos, but mostly the fact that this church served as an ark of knowledge and historical records, make the presence of this monastery truly important not only for those past years, but also for today, since it constitutes a living cell of spirituality.
