The Egyptian vulture – The mythical vulture of rocks
The Egyptian vulture is one of the four kinds of vulture in Europe. It used to live in the area of Meteora flying close to people, who have given it a lot of mythical and local names. Nowadays, it is threatened with extinction and that’s why everyone is looking forward to seeing it back in Meteora.
People’s fear and efforts to save this endangered species led to a number of initiatives for the establishment of organizations in the Balkans, Middle East, and Africa, as well as for the production of a documentary under the title “The Last Egyptian Vulture”, which received an award for the best short-film documentary.
Meet, admire and save the Egyptian vulture through the actions of the Hellenic Ornithological Society, which developed an intense activity in the general Regional Unit of Trikala.
